4 months before 4

My Titus boy.  Oh.My.  You are just 4 months shy of your 4th birthday.  This is so so hard for me to believe.  You are a ham and keep us laughing.  You have quite the opinions and I love hearing your confident spirit tell me all the things you are great at doing!  You told me the other day you are studious!

You love your sister and are a pretty big helper to me.  I ask you to do favors for me and you do them! Now, you ask me to do favors for you too!   You LOVE being outside and would dig in the dirt for hours if I let you.   You are very physical and we are constantly reminding you to be safe with that little body of yours.  You are lean and picky.  Getting you to take another bite is stressful at times.  You are a strong willed little boy.  I had an outfit picked out for family pictures and you insisted on wearing your tie so we improvised.  You find SO much joy in talking to the big kids on our street.  They are sweet to you as you talk their ear off.

You LOVE Christmas and we are jumping in with both feet this year!  We don't go crazy over Santa, however, you do.  Despite our best efforts, your little imagination runs wild with elves, and the man with the hat.  That's ok.  Honestly, there's magic in your twinkly eyes.  My hope is despite the lights we'll see and the funny things our little elf will do, you will look to the Christ child and understand what it's all about.   We are doing our best to point to that amidst the fun!

You love legos, your nerf bow, and the little Christmas tree in your room.  We find you sleeping on the floor next to it each night when we go in to check on you and unplug it.

Although you are B-U-S-Y, you still ask for me to rock you some nights. Truth me told, I treasure it.  You will forever be the best surprise of my life!

month seven

Maeve, you are seven (almost 8) months old.  You continue to bring us so so much joy.  You are a delight to my heart.

This past month has been a stressful one.  We made your first ER visit after you spiked a high fever.  Turns out,  you had a viral infection.  During the span, you were monitored very closely.  Now you have had 2 ear infections and an awful cold we picked up over Thanksgiving.  Between checks and rechecks, we have visited your doctor NINE times.  I just want my sweet girl to be back to normal again (prayers appreciated)!  While being sick, all you want is your mama.  I am so thankful God has chosen me to be that for you and there is no place in the world I'd rather be than holding my baby.  You will be staying close to me in a bubble the rest of the winter I think!

Between moving/settling in our new house and buying a car that died 20 miles into driving it, we've been a tired bunch.  Weary, really.   God's grace is meeting us here too in our exhaustion.

Although you've been a sick girl, you have perfected the art of the army crawl and have mastered waving Hey and Bye.  You have us wrapped so tight!  You are pretty much on a four hour schedule during the day and usually wake up by 5 AM to nurse.  Thankfully, you go right back to sleep.  This time around, I haven't pushed the sleeping thing.  Your daddy and I can't bear to hear you cry at all so up one of us goes to put your paci in or me to feed you.  It's a short season and my blood pressure goes up just thinking about you crying.  I am pumping about 5 times a day now to ensure you get full feedings and I keep my supply up.  I am pretty weary with pumping but will go as long as I can. I am praying I can have enough milk to get you to a year.

You are a trooper and maintain a laid back attitude despite your brother's pinches and hugs.  I try really hard to keep him safe with you, though it's a bit of a workout.  He really loves you though!

Sweet Maeve, we love you so much.  You are such a gift!

6 months.. a month late.

Sweet Maeve,

Tomorrow you will be SEVEN months old.  How can his be?  In my mind, you are still around two months.  My foggy brain loses track of the weeks as they fly by while the afternoons before Daddy gets home seems slow somedays.  You bring so much joy to our family sweet girl.

At 6 months you were around the 80th percentage for head, 60th for height and 30th for weight.  Your little 6 month picture never happened.  Mom fail.   I may just take a pic at 7 months with the six month picture for your baby photobook.  While you didn't get your pic made, your mommy and daddy bought our first house.  We were piled high in packing and moving.  Your room was just painting and I am ready to decorate it again!

You became more talkative around six months with babbling.  Your most clear word remains "mama."  You became stronger sitting up and harder to nurse.  I am relying mostly on the pump to try to keep my milk supply up and keep nursing going.  You are alert and active with a laid back disposition.  You are my go with the flow girl. You mostly sleep through the night with some bumps and paci "plugs" along the way.  Sometimes I genuninely cannot remember if I was up in the night or not!  You have tried fruits and veggies this past month with he intro into solids.  You LOVE solids but your favorite thing is yobaby yogurt.

Better late than never!! Kind of goes along with your entry into he world! Clearly we both share that trait!

Pics are on the camera and coming.. but for now.. let's just hit publish!

5 months

She's 5 months and getting close to 15 lbs (14.10).  Her baby rolls make my heart sing!  I can't believe we are 1 month away for the big 6 (I'm late again here).  Crazy!  Between 4 and 5 months Maeve has become quite the roller.  I can't keep her in one place and find her rolling across the floor!  Maeve got sick right around 5 months and had her first fever.  She was so pleasant even with a fever, but it broke my heart.  Thankfully, it was a quick viral infection and she is better now.  This came after her first week in the nursery at church.  I really don't like flu and cold season with little kiddos. Yup, she managed to hang with us for 5 months, but started wanting to get a little too chatty!

She is continuing to grow in her fine motor skills and her trick is pulling out her paci and putting it back in (or throwing it for me to find). She loves her sophie giraffe and now has a little lovey she holds while going to sleep.  It's not big at all, but I still take it out once she's asleep.  This month she has taken a step back on the sleeping so we have been working hard to get this girl on a schedule.  She is now in her own crib (was in bassinet still), in a sleep sack, with a tacky breathable bumper.  As soon as I put her in her crib she rolls over to sleep on her tummy.  I am constantly rolling her back over (and losing sleep because of it).

I was planning to wait until 6 months to start solids, but since this girl was waking up more and watching our ever bite so we started introducing rice cereal at 5 1/2 months. After hearing some (not so awesome) news about arsenic and rice, we've switched to oatmeal.

Maeve has started babbling and I claim every bit of the mamamama talk.  That's my girl! Maeve also brings out all kinds of tenderness from her Sgt. Dad!  She has him wrappped and he always says, "I just tear up looking at her."  This is NOT common, baby girl!

The leftover hippie in me loves to wear her in our ergo whenever I can.  She loves being close and so do I!!

Happy 5 months sweet girl! I feel so blessed to call you my daughter.

4 months

She's not 4 months.. she's five and some change!! I have some updating to do.

What a sweet girl she is.  Seriously, We're smitten.

At 4 months..

She is in the 35% for weight (12.15 ounces), 94% for length and for 41% that noggin'.  She looks straight Epp and has these dark little features that bypassed my gene pool!  Maeve has started laughing out loud and picking up things with those sweet hands.  She loves a warm body and thinks her brother is hilarious.  Except when he roars.  She isn't a fan of that!  She's a pretty good little sleeper but not on the greatest schedule at this point.  I was so much more of a scheduler with the first.  Maeve is pretty happy regardless, so thus far, we've just rolled with it.  I finally feel like at this point we are in a good rhythm with nursing.  YES, it took me FOUR months with my second child to feel like nursing is going well.  With Titus, I never felt like it went well for all 8 months, so this is progress!!  She is in size 2 diapers and in 3-6 month clothes. She has the cutest little rolls starting to for and I can't help but celebrate.

Sweet Maeve,  You light up my eyes and bring so much joy to my heart.  I really just love having you around all day every day.  I sure hope we always have a sweet relationship and I can't help but dream of all the fun times will get to have as mother and daughter.  Wow, you are SUCH a gift and a treasure to your parents.  Happy 4 months (really late)!!

Titus at 3 1/2

At 3.5 Titus is active, funny, wild, opinionated, strong willed, sweet, loving and a handful.  He is all boy and is constantly trying to wrestle something (girls are suppose to be off limits).  He loves to pretend and wants to chew gum like it's going out of style.  He thinks he is a superhero and that role is played out by constantly jumping off of something or someone.  He has a tender heart and loves big.  He's my all or nothing child.  Hot or cold. And passionate.  He needs consistency and redirecting with loving affirmation.  He keeps us laughing with his made up songs and friends and my his hugs are the best.  I'm sure you can guess what my prayer is for this little guy... that he would channel that passion, and energy for Christ.

3 months

Our sweet Maeve is 3 months old.  The time is flying with this sweet girl.  I find myself wishing I could freeze this stage.  The part where she will sleep anywhere and often falls asleep on me.  The part where she smiles so sweetly and watches the world with fresh little eyes.  I love babies!  Then I remind myself that each stage is really a gift and there are so many sweet memories to be made at 6 months, 1 year etc.

Maeve weighs somewhere around 12 1/2 lbs.  She can roll from her tummy to back and loves to coo at anyone who will look at her.  She's an observant baby and seems to be a sensitive soul.  Loud noises make her turn that lip under and her brother can get her close to laughing.  She loves him.

She has started sleeping through most nights as long as I pump her last feeding to fill that tummy up (knock on wood).  I can tell she prefers the bottle, yet gets nursed most of the time (except for her last bottle before bedtime).   While on vacation I pumped more and I'm pretty sure she came back with extra chub!  I love that baby chub! Nursing is something I have to work hard at.   I find myself constantly working hard to keep my supply up and keep her interested.  All that while trying to keep her flexible enough to take a bottle!  She nurses best while using the boppy and being rocked! Oh my!  ;)

Sweet Maevey girl,

We love you so much.  I feel like I could hold you for a million years and your Daddy told me yesterday that he just has this overwhelming love for you.  He said he's sure he could figure out a way to get to the moon if you asked him to.  Just like with your brother, we are WILD over you! You seem to be a gentle spirit that watches people.  I feel like I know you so well already.  You have enriched our lives so much and I will be forever grateful for the gift of being your Mommy! And for the record... you look just like your Dad!

Love,

Your Mommy

beach pics

On a windy evening while on vacation I had the grand idea of taking some pics of the kids.  Ryan thought it was a terrible idea but I begged and pleaded.  After a yummy dinner eating our fav fish tacos, we ventured out.  I kept saying "we just need one" with full intentions of taking a few more.  It was quick and snappy but we got some pics I'll treasure for years to come!  The sister was happy to be and have someone to talk to her and the brother hammed it up!

I've come to the realization of 2 things.. My hair cutting skills on Titus need some help from the professionals and I never knew how much I'd love dressing my sweet little girl in smocked dresses until I saw her in one.  Sigh.

what our june looked like..

We went to Charleston while Ryan was in France.  It was so nice to not be on my own for those 18 days.  The beach was loads of fun too!  The beach is TONS of work to get there (with kids..esp a baby) but lots of fun once we're there!  Hopefully next summer will be a little easier with less "things" to take.

We shared some good talks with Titus.  He's starting to ask lots of questions about God and how he can have the Holy Spirit.  I find myself filled with joy over this, but I want to be careful to explain things well.  I know these truths are shaping him.  Childlike faith is a beautiful thing.

We had lots of brotherly/sisterly love. I think Maeve is giving the get.off.me.look!  I have to watch him like a hawk with her..

We celebrated Father's Day at church and then a local park. Ryan did a little fly fishing until he wound back and caught me with the hook.  He learned quickly when I was ready to burst into tears yelling, "get it outttt!!!"  I was thankful we moved onto the playground after that and that he didn't catch one of our kids!  We are all in process I guess.

We played in the water!!! This might be minor for most but I have LONGED for HOT and muggy summer days where we could play in the kiddie pool, sprinklers etc.  I've eaten quite a few watermelons by myself and am enjoying a southern summer.  The south is my sweet spot and I hope and pray we never have to move away from it again.

We heard over and over how much this little miss looks like her Daddy.  It's true.  The only thing she has from me is a funky calic that will force her to part her hair on the opposite side of most! ;)

2 months

Since she's close to 3 months, I better get on 2 months!! Will I ever be on time?! My brain is spinning and somewhere down there I feel slightly guilty because I know Maeve doesn't have as many pictures as her brother!  Then again, I'm pretty sure there's maybe 2 pics of me as a baby and I turned out ok, so between instagram and random other iphone pics, she'll be ok too!

During Maeve's 2nd month she...

- weighed 10 lbs 15 oz at her appointment.  She was in the 50th percentile across the board.
- switched from giving us little grins to big smiles.
- started cooing.
- gained better head control.
- wakes up once a night (the time depends on if I nursed or pumped on her last feeding.. she goes longer if I pump and give her a bottle).
- started paying more attention to her brother.
- went to the beach for the first time and was a good girl!
- got some shots and was a little more fussy and had a funny tummy (that was from the rotavirus vaccine which I am VERY thankful for her to have)
- can get pretty much anything from her Daddy.  He was going to buy her a $100 sun shade for like 2 days at the beach so she can stay nice and cool.  Thankfully I talked him into a much cheaper one.  He is puddy in her hand!
- is the sweetest, most laid back baby.  Her disposition makes my heart swell with joy.  I am so thankful God chose me to be her mommy!

Titus-isms

Kids say the funniest things.  They really just do the funniest things too.  Ok, kids are stinkin' hilarious.  Esp once they turn 3.  They are still little but they have this personality that comes out from the perspective of a mini-person.  3 is hard too.. esp when the tantrums strike!  Since it can be hard too, I savour and hold onto the great!

Titus has been cracking us up recently....

He grabbed a jalapeno from Ryan's nachos and said, "Whoa, dats spicy.  I like spicy."

We went to the movies the other day and he talked the rest of the day about the "movie-ator."

I can't forget the little bottle of Purrel that sits in his car seat just in case he needs some "han-tizer."

He's a sweet boy that likes to tell us he loves us.  Medicine for the soul.  Today he said, "Mom when I get older, I will marry you."  I said, "but what will Daddy do since I'm married to him?"  No worries, he just said, "Daddy will go and buy us BOTH a present!"

When T wants to use something he says, "Can I lose that?"  It's so hard not to mess with him on that one!  ;)

His imaginary friends make a daily appearance at our house.  They have no parents and can do "anyfing they want."  My favs are "Panchi, Pink, and Plank."

I can't believe he's cruising through the 3's.  Although the first 6 weeks of his sister's life brought on some more interesting behavior from him, it's been a joy to see him love his little sis.  As she gets older and more alert, she is responding to him with sweet baby smiles.  I think she is going to adore him.  When we are at home and it's just us, he cannot keep his hands off her (insert multiple heart attacks from me)!
